About Yangon

The former capital of Myanmar (1885 - 2006) today with a population of over five million is bordered by the Yangon River in the south and the Bago River to the east. Yangon gives a different impression from other Asian cities of similar size, green and full of trees above which the shimmering stupas float.

The most famous and revered monument in Yangon is the glittering Shwedagon Pagoda and a must for every visitor of Myanmar. But the city also offers other impressive sights: Its colonial heart with the over 2000 year old Sule Pagoda and the famous Scott Market, a heaven for exquisite Burmese handicrafts, the Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha as well as its parks, lakes and the bustling waterfront.
